Idol Fever

Let me be a journalist for today!

Today I was at the airport on a mission, to eat my noodles! Think I am crazy? Perhaps!

Passengers lugging heavy luggage and pushing trolleys with luggage was a common sight at the airport. But today, there was something peculiar about the crowd at the airport. They weren’t carrying any luggage but instead big placards and banners. As I was walking passed the arrival area, a crowd of screaming teenagers wearing an orange t-shirt with the name Wilber on it, thronged towards me. For a moment, I thought I was a superstar but that would never be possible. So I thought it was a demonstration or a protest against the killing of whales since it is written on their t-shirt ‘Wilber’. ;-)
But who knows when I turned around there were 5 little short petite-looking men. I asked around and found out they are actually the 5566 band. Wilber is one of the guys. The crowd gathered just to see them.

When I asked who they were, some teenagers looked at me quizzically. Then they asked me if I am a Singaporean. Ok, so what’s wrong with not knowing these people? So I have been living under a rock.

Police and security guards cordoned off the place. The screaming pierced through the air. The atmosphere was electrifying. Everyone was running from place to place to catch a glimpse of their idol. Sooner or later, I thought would be run over in the stampede. When the 5 guys came out, not only were there screams but also presents and cards can be seen throwing at them. Brightly coloured banners and posters were everywhere. Cameras were flashing and blinding them. They were pushing and tugging. Everyone wanted to be in the front. Those who couldn’t get to the front had to tiptoe. It seems as though the 5 boys was the meat surrounded by hyenas. I can tell you that most of their fans are ‘Ah lians’. It is so distinctive. Most of them have re-bonded hair, carries an orange comb with a sharp tip it the end in their back pocket. They speak some funny language with a mixture of hokkien, English and Mandarin. I presume this group of people are also fans of Sylvester. Oh I forgot this is Singapore!
So must like that lah!

I heard some fans even booked a taxi to follow the 5566 guys, $70 for 2 hours I think!
Then one of the fans told me that they bought the 5566-concert ticket for $128.
I think these people are mad. It is idiocy! Their fanatical loyalty to the band would not even be recognised. Everyone is screaming how would they know who screamed. This is the first time witnessing such an event. But I think it is just a passing fad.

After lunch, as I was about to leave the airport, I saw Xie Shaoguang. He was dressed very casually in t-shirt and Bermudas. I think he was there to receive some directors from Hong Kong.

I finally bought a pair of sport’s shoes for next year. I am so full now. Two hours after lunch, I ate my dinner, which is at 3pm. Actually, I packed the Bandito Pocket home for dinner but when I got home it was very soggy. So I had to eat it immediately. Never mind I can burn off all the calories next week.

The hip-hop dance competition is postponed to the 18th and 19th December. One girl couldn’t make it for the competition now there are only 3 left including me. I think the dance is going to look very sparse. I thought dance would end next week after the 13th. But now we have to practise for a week more. Boo hoo hoo!

This Tuesday, 14th/12, I have dance again. It is from 11.30-1.30pm continued by the mass dance practise with the counsellors from 1.30pm to about 4pm.. Boo hoo hoo! Heard you ever heard of dancing until you drop/faint? Maybe I can show you! ;-p
